Johnny Nash has sadly died at the age of 80. The reggae singer’s passing was announced by his son, via CBS Los Angeles.

Best known in the US for his 1972 hit, “I Can See Clearly Now,” Johnny died at his home on Tuesday, October 6, from unknown causes. Johnny was born in Houston and one of the first non-Jamaican singers to record reggae music in Kingston, Jamaica.

He started singing as a child at Progressive New Hope Baptist Church. He made his major label debut in 1957 with the single “A Teenager Sings the Blues”, the site says. Johnny‘s passing follows the news that Eddie Van Halen also passed away earlier in the day.
