Manchester United relaxed their restrictions on young players to the detriment of discipline and success after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

That has been claimed by former United player Nick Powell, whose time at Old Trafford straddled the eras of Ferguson, David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.

According to Powell, now at Stoke after leaving United permanently in 2016 for Wigan, the feeling at the Carrington training ground changed instantly following Ferguson’s departure.

United won the Premier League under the legendary Scot in 2012/13, his final season at the helm, before finishing seventh under Moyes who was sacked before finishing his sole campaign.
