He then underwent officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He was commissioned as a cornet (second lieutenant) into the Blues and Royals, serving temporarily with his brother Prince William, and he completed his training as a troop leader. In 2007–08, he served for over ten weeks in Helmand, Afghanistan, but was pulled out after an Australian magazine revealed his presence there. He returned to Afghanistan for a 20-week deployment in 2012–13 with the Army Air Corps. He left the army in June 2015.

Prince Harry has renewed his lease on Frogmore Cottage which will allow him to deputise for the Queen - should he need to, according to reports.The Duke of Sussex, who lives in California, is still eligible to serve his grandmother as one of her four Counsellors of State because he qualifies as being "domiciled" in Britain thanks to his old Windsor address, The Sunday Telegraph reports.This means Charles, William, Harry and Andrew - the four adults next in line to the throne - can fill in for the Queen at her request should she fall temporarily ill.The news comes as it was revealed the Queen had tested positive for Covid.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the monarch was experiencing "mild cold-like symptoms" over the weekend. Her Majesty's eldest son and heir, Prince Charles, tested positive on February 10, after meeting his mother on February 8.

In September 2020, the Sussexes paid back £2.4million for the renovations to their London home, including rent up to March 2022 in a complicated arrangement detailed only in part in the Palace annual accounts.
