Grieving Eilish O’Carroll calls for national day of mourning after COVID-19 crisis

Having been unable to give her sister the send-off she deserved, actor Eilish O’Carroll is calling for a national day of mourning when the COVID-19 crisis passes.

Eilish, 68, who plays Mrs Brown’s friend and neighbour Winnie McGoogan on the BBC show, lost her sister Fiona earlier this year before lockdown.

Speaking on Virgin Media One’s ‘The Six O’Clock Show’ on Thursday, Eilish said she didn’t make it to Canada in time to see her sister before she died. ‘I sadly didn’t get there on time,’ she explained. ‘Brendan managed to get there the night she died.
