Gary Lineker was forced to delete a contentious tweet in the aftermath of the Lioness' Euro 2022 victory. England made history on Sunday night as they beat eight-times-champions Germany 2-1 to win the UEFA women's Euro championship - after a 56-year wait for a major trophy.

After a goal for England from Manchester United's Ella Toone just after 30 minutes then an equaliser for Germany from Lina Magull in the 79th minute, the match went into extra time.

And it was Chloe Kelly who sent Wembley Stadium into raptures with the winning goal - just four months after returning to action from injury.

The goal triggered a mass outpouring of emotion across the nation and indeed on social media, with many taking to Twitter to hail the Lionesses for their success. READ MORE:"My dad always told me football wasn't for girls - this is what the Lionesses historic Euro win means to me" Kelly's celebration - taking off her shirt and wildly spinning it above her head while sporting a Nike sports bra - has already been immortalised.
