Scotland has sky-rocketed after short-sighted owners struggle to cope months after buying them. The SSPCA has seen a spike in calls from people contacting their helpline looking to give up their pets bought during the country's first pandemic.

Scotland's animal welfare charity has now raised fears that young dogs will be no longer wanted or abandoned once restrictions are lifted and people head back to work.

Scottish sellers have flooded buy-and-sell websites with adverts for puppies aged between three and 12 months, with many admitting they no longer have the time to look after their pets.One advert from an owner in Edinburgh is rehoming their Daschund puppy due to 'work commitments', while a seller in in Fife is flogging their £2,500.
