Council bosses are making a compulsory purchase order on a privately-owned house in Galston. No 53 Catherine Drive in the town used to be owned by East Ayrshire Council.Now there are plans for the four-bedroom property to become a council home once again as the local authority gears up to buy it back.The abandoned, rundown house has suffered deterioration with workers having to board up smashed windows.The compulsory purchase order (CPO) has had to be submitted to Scottish ministers before it can be confirmed.CPOs – which give councils the legal power to forcibly purchase a land or a home – are only used when property is needed to meet a public need.
