Catchment area of Perthshire school previously threatened with closure could be extended

the School Closure Review Panel overturned the Perth and Kinross Council decision to shut the rural school citing “significant” failures in the council’s decision process.

In November 2020 PKC’s lifelong learning committee approved an options appraisal for a potential catchment review and the possible addition of a nursery.The detailed options appraisal presented to councillors this week also recommended noting that nursery provision was “not required” at the this stage, as well as keeping the catchment area as it is.But Conservative councillor Caroline Shiers, who convenes the committee, put forward a motion to “undertake a statutory consultation on a proposal to amend the catchment area for Abernyte Primary School to include the area.
