Charles Ingram
Charles William Ingram (born 6 August 1963) is an English novelist, computer repairman, and former British Army major who became known for being accused and convicted of cheating on the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001, after winning the maximum prize of one million pounds. Following a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted on a single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception. He was convicted of an unrelated insurance fraud in 2003, and ordered to resign his commission as a major by the Army Board.

The couple involved in the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? cheating scandal came on set during the filming of a television series about the event, according to the writer of the programme.

James Graham, who also previously wrote a play about the incident, said that the makers of the programme “spoke to all sides” while producing the series.

Army major Charles Ingram, dubbed the Coughing Major, and his wife Diana, along with their accomplice, Tecwen Whittock, were found guilty in a 2003 trial of cheating their way to the top prize in the quiz programme.
