Charles Ingram
Charles William Ingram (born 6 August 1963) is an English novelist, computer repairman, and former British Army major who became known for being accused and convicted of cheating on the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001, after winning the maximum prize of one million pounds. Following a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted on a single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception. He was convicted of an unrelated insurance fraud in 2003, and ordered to resign his commission as a major by the Army Board.

VIEWERS of Quiz, the ITV drama about Who Wants to be a Millionaire? cheat Charles Ingham, are convinced he would have got away with it he’d stopped at £250,000.

Back in 2001, the ex-Army Major swindled the show with help from his wife Diana and a coughing accomplice, Tecwen Whittock. The final of the show aired last night and viewers think Charles might have got away with it if he’d only stopped earlier.

Richard Osman, co-presenter of Pointless, tweeted: “If he’d stopped at £250k he would totally have got away with it. Tax-free too #Quiz” Many of his followers and viewers of the show agreed with his statement.

One wrote: “Totally agree! Even 500k would have been safe!!!!” While a second added: “Mrs said same thing!! Got that little bit too.
