Heading into their final Group A match at the Estadio da Luz, Portugal knew that they had to avoid defeat to secure their spot in next year's finals, with Serbia arriving in Lisbon just behind them on goal difference.
After making the perfect start, getting their noses in front inside just two minutes through midfielder Renato Sanches, Portugal were pegged back just past the half-hour mark through Ajax ace Dusan Tadic.
