Meghan Markle has always been vocal about women’s issues and the role she would like to play in making the lives of women better in any way that she can.
In the past, the mum-of-two, 40, has worked with Smart Works, an organisation that helps women in the workplace through job interview training and also provides appropriate clothing for them.The Duchess of Sussex is also keen to support women’s organisations and rights in the jewellery that she wears and has been spotted with a diamond ring on her pinky finger from jewellers Shiffon Co., which has a special meaning behind it.
The $2,800 ring called the 1972 tennis pinky ring was created in “honour of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, the landmark legislation that paved the way for women in sports.” The ring is a play on the traditional tennis bracelet and is shaped in a spiral to allow the diamonds to show from all angles.
According to Shiffon Co.’s official website, the diamond studded pinky ring is continuing this legacy and supporting women through its sales. “This diamonds all around version of our signature pinky ring continues the mission of supporting women with 19.72% of profits going to our Women in Sports Investment fund.This fund will investment in female funded companies in sports related verticals, including health and wellness.” New York-based Shilpa Yarlagadda, who founded the fine jewellery brand from her Harvard dorm room, in a bid to close the gender gap particularly in entrepreneurship, spoke to People about the duchess wearing her ring.
