strike action. Edinburgh Napier University had announced job cuts sparking fury among trade union members. Unison representatives claim the scheme was rolled out before the university considered other measures.
An overwhelming 84 per cent of affected members voted 'yes' for industrial action on a 68 per cent turnout.Unison, which is the UK's biggest union and covers a wide variety of sectors, typically represents office support, administrative staff and public employees within the education field.Union bosses threatened strike action during the all important freshers' week as well as the first week of teaching.Napier has now agreed to go for a voluntary severance scheme instead.Lorcan Mullen, Unison Scotland regional head of higher.
