Police name man who died at scene of A77 crash between car and bus

A 58-year-old man who tragically died at the scene of a crash between a car and a bus on the A77 has been named.John Rae from Girvan was killed after his white MG was involved in a smash with a blue and white Volvo bus around 10.30pm last night.Emergency services raced to the scene on the stretch of road between Girvan and Turnberry.Mr Rae was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, police have confirmed.There were no other reported injuries and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.The road was closed overnight in both directions with motorists diverted via Dailly.

Officers have now launched an appeal and are asking for any witnesses to come forward with information or produce dash-cam footage.Sergeant Christopher Hoggans of Ayrshire's roads policing unit said: “Our thoughts are will the family and friends of Mr Rae at this very difficult time.“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the crash to come forward with any information or dashcam footage.“Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting incident 3780 of July 13.”Don't miss the latest Ayrshire headlines –sign up to our free daily newsletter here
