Police inadvertently discovered a 'sophisticated' cannabis farm after being told a man was being attacked by a balaclava clad gang.

When officers arrived at Holland Road in Crumpsall, there was no sign of the four alleged attackers or the victim. But when they conducted door to door enquiries they found a cannabis farm in a semi detached home.

No-one was present, but in the joining house they found another cannabis farm, where 28-year-old Endri Velaj was in an upstairs bedroom on March 4.

A total of 110 plants were found, which police estimated could be worth anything from £2,000 to £41,200, depending on the strength of the drug and whether it was sold in bulk or in street deals.
