Lightning the 12-year-old pony collapsed and died in his field off Thorpe Lane yesterday (January 17). He stopped breathing when a full potato became trapped at the bottom of his windpipe. Neighbours watched as he ran across his field and into their fence in a “blind panic”. It is now understood he was desperately trying to dislodge the food.
