Helensburgh drag queen has revealed that winning a hit reality TV show feels like a backhander to those who picked on her while at school.Lawrence Chaney, 23, a former pupil at the town’s Hermitage Academy, was selected as the winner of BBC Three’s RuPaul’s Drag Race UK last week – meaning that she will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Hollywood to create a digital series with the producers of the US version of the show. And for Lawrence, whose birth name is Lawrence Maidment, it was a moment to savour – having been bullied at school for being different. She explained: "When I grew up I was bullied quite a lot in school because I walked differently, I had weird hair and I was fat.
