Pensioner, 75, died from pneumonia after being hit by Mercedes, inquest hears

A pensioner who was hit by a car in Asthon-Under-Lyne over Christmas died after contracting pneumonia, an inquest has heard.

Patricia Angela Dermody, 75, was struck by a Mercedes on Wellington Road in Ashton on December 18, 2021. She sadly passed away in Salford Royal Hospital 10 days later, a coroner has said. READ MORE: Man who killed schoolgirl in collision found guilty of dangerous driving Opening the inquest into Ms Dermody’s death, senior coroner Alison Mutch said police investigations are still ongoing into the incident. “We have been offered a cause of death of 1A — pneumonia,” Ms Mutch said during the short hearing in Stockport this morning (January 20). “[It was] caused by… a road traffic collision. “She was struck by a motor vehicle on Wellington Road in Ashton-Under-Lyne. “Police are undertaking a full investigation. “Clearly an inquest is required.” A statement from a Greater Manchester Police detective at the time of the incident added it had been ‘devastating’.

PC Lee Gandy, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said : "This is a devastating incident in which a woman has sadly died.

Our thoughts go out to her family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. “"We are still appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the collision or have any dash-cam or CCTV footage of the incident. "Due to this collision happening in the middle of the day and on a weekend, we are hopeful that there will be a number of people who saw this incident and will be able to assist police with enquiries. "If you have any dash-cam footage or information please speak to police as soon as possible." The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene to assist police.
