The annual event is being held in September rather than in May because of delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Every single guest in attendance is required to be vaccinated and one celebrity just admitted she won’t be attending because she doesn’t want to get the vaccine yet.
The theme this year is “American Independence” and is inspired by the Costume Institute’s exhibition, Part One—In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.
The theme is meant to “celebrate The Costume Institute’s 75th anniversary and explore a modern vocabulary of American fashion,” according to Vogue and exhibit organizers.
