The Dutchman became United's first summer arrival earlier last week after signing a five-year contract with the option of an additional year following his £34.6m transfer from Ajax.
Van de Beek was widely expected to join Real Madrid this summer and his agent confirmed Arsenal and Barcelona were among the clubs vying for his signature.However, it was United who managed to secure the deal and Fletcher believes his old club have got themselves a bargain. “He’s a top-class player and I think he’s a fantastic signing,” the former Scotland international told United’s website.
