A man has died after becoming trapped in a mine shaft in Fife.Emergency services had raced to the scene at around 2.30pm, with Scottish Fire and Rescue sending two appliances and three water rescue teams.But the 51-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is understood the man died before he could be recovered from the mine. A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Officers assisted emergency services partners following a report that a man was trapped in a mine near Main Road, Charlestown, Fife, around 2.30pm on Saturday, March 14. "A 51-year-old man was rescued from the mine shaft but was pronounced dead at the scene."The death is being treated as unexplained.
