Making A Murderer’s Stephen Avery has been denied a new trial after appealing for his case to be reheard on the grounds of fresh evidence.
Avery, now 59 is serving a life sentence for the murder of photographer Teresa Halbach in 2005 but has continuously protested his innocence in a case that has become a global talking point.
His lawyer Kathleen Zellner had asked the court to consider claims of insufficient evidence and ineffectual trial council but the request failed to convince the court to allow his case to be reopened.
Explaining the decision, a statement from the Wisconsin Court of Appeals as per AP/The Belfast Telegraph reads: ‘Avery raises a variety of alternative theories about who killed Halbach and how.’ A post shared by Kathleen
