She’s a total professional and devoted to her work – both on Good Morning Britain and Smooth – but she had no choice but to step away this week to be there with him. " Kate has worked hard to balance her work life with being a full-time carer for Derek, 54, who has continued to struggle with his mobility and speech, as well as looking after their two children, Darcey, 16, and Billy, 12.
The 55-year-old also confirmed that he was in hospital for a short stint earlier this month. Requiring round-the-clock care, Kate had to transform parts of their home to cater to her husband's needs.
Over the last year, she gave the public an insight into Derek's return home and what their life is like with the release of two documentaries: Finding Derek and Caring For Derek.
