In a new trailer for the hotly-anticipated Hulu series Kardashians, Kourtney Kardashian reveals that she's undergoing IVF to help her conceive a baby with fiance Travis Barker. The 42 year old said the experience hasn't been totally easy, and has triggered unwanted side effects that she considers to be perimenopause symptoms. "The medication that they’ve been giving me, they put me into menopause," she claimed, prompting her mum, Kris Jenner to ask, "Based off of what?

A drug?"  "Yes," Kourtney replied. Although, of course, we don't know Kourtney's exact medical history and diagnosis, the link may not be that straightforward.

The UK’s leading nutritionist in women’s health Marilyn Glenville, told the Express that it's often a little more complicated than a direct correlation.

Marilyn did not comment on any woman specifically, including Kourtney, but instead presented her knowledge on the subject. "Obviously going through IVF puts a woman’s body on a roller coaster of hormone fluctuations and a woman may become more sensitive to those hormone changes and so register the symptoms of the perimenopause sooner than another woman," explained Marilyn. "But it may also be that the woman who is going for IVF has a lower ovarian reserve anyway and that is why she needs medical help to get pregnant and would be going through the menopause earlier whether she had IVF or not." Around 5% of women go into peri-menopause between the ages 40 and 45.
