BBC 1’s The Greatest Dancer is facing the chop after just two series due to falling ratings. The show, featuring Cheryl Tweedy and Oti Mabuse as “dance captains”, has struggled up against rival show The Voice in the Saturday night prime time battle.

It pulled in just 2.8million viewers for its final episode at the weekend — as ballroom and Latin dancers Michael and Jowita lifted the crown.

The programme was beaten by long-running BBC hospital drama Casualty and was down by more than a million. Crew on the series, hosted by Alesha Dixon and Jordan Banjo, have been told not to expect future work on the show.
