WarnerMedia, Major League Baseball Reach 7-Year Rights Extension At Reported $3.75B; Will HBO Max Benefit?

Dade Hayes Finance EditorWarnerMedia’s Turner Sports and Major League Baseball have reached a seven-year rights extension through 2028, with HBO Max potentially a future venue for game broadcasts.While the partners are not commenting on the valuation of the deal, it has been reported to be $3.75 billion, or $535 million a year.The re-up will keep games on TBS, a longtime MLB broadcaster with particular prominence in the postseason.

Under the new agreement, TBS will add a season-long Tuesday night game franchise and digital rights will be added to Bleacher Report plus what the official announcement called “additional WarnerMedia platforms.” One of those platforms is HBO Max, which launched in May and has gotten off to a sluggish start.
