The veteran Royal Shakespeare Company and film actor Sir Ian Holm, who played Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings films, has died at the age of 88 from a Parkinsons-related illness.Sir Ian, was Oscar-nominated as best supporting actor for his role as the the coach in Chariots of Fire."It is with great sadness we can confirm that the actor Sir Ian Holm CBE passed away this morning at the age of 88," his agent Alex Irwin said in a statement."He died peacefully in hospital with his family and carer," he added. "His illness was Parkinson's-related."The actor, who was also an acclaimed theatre star, appeared in films such as The Madness Of King George.His agent added: “An established star of the Royal Shakespeare Company, and Harold Pinter’s.
