Once MGM Studios lost the rights to adapt the “Tomb Raider” video game franchise, the future of all the projects in development became very uncertain. Then there was a high-profile scramble for a buyer to make themselves the new home of the IP, and well, it looks like Amazon has landed the rights.

Following her role as a feisty droid in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” actor/writer/producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”) took another plunge into the world of blockbusters to reunite with Lucasfilm for their fifth and final “Indiana Jones” installment. Well, she must have had a bunch of fun on “The Dial of Destiny” as she’s looking to return to familiar franchise territory with a newly announced live-action “Tomb Raider” series at Amazon, a video game franchise very much inspired by likes of “Indiana Jones” but with a modern setting.

Before the pandemic, Amazon Studios was much more interested in releasing films with full theatrical runs before putting the feature on Prime Video. However, when COVID made that an impossibility, we saw the studio rely more heavily on Prime Video exclusives and shy away from full theatrical runs, even for films that were vying for awards season gold.

To say that “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is a massive bet for Amazon is a complete understatement. Sure, any big-budget series for a streaming service requires a bit of betting and good luck, but no other series in the history of TV has cost nearly as much as ‘Rings’ and required so much money upfront just to land the rights.

This week was pretty rough for British actor Henry Cavill. After announcing his official return as Superman back in October and a cameo in Dwayne Johnson‘s “Black Adam,” it now appears Cavill as Superman is no longer part of the DCU‘s long-term plans.

Last week, news broke that Mike Flanagan and his producing partner Trevor Macy jumped ship from Netflix to Amazon on a new overall TV deal. Now there’s news about what Flanagan’s first project with Amazon might be.

“The Boys” has not only become one of the smartest superhero satires to ever grace a screen, but the series is, without a doubt, one of the most popular shows on a streaming service right now. And in this world of IP dominance, you better believe Amazon knows that the best way to handle a runaway hit like “The Boys” is to start with the spinoffs.

Amazon Prime Video has announced the cast for its upcoming Korean original series Island.Based on a webtoon of the same name, Island is set to be a fantasy action series set in Jeju Island, depicting the journeys of a roster of characters as they attempt to fight off an evil force hellbent on global annihilation. According to the streaming platform, Island will tap into the cultural legends and ancient folklores of one of South Korea’s most famous islands.
