Police warning as fraudsters use cute pictures of pets to steal deposits from animal lovers

According to GMP and Action Fraud, fraudsters have been tricking people out of money involving the purchase of pets, such as puppies and kittens, during the coronavirus pandemic.

People have been putting down deposits on pets advertised online, only to be let down and have their money stolen. During the first lockdown in March and April, 669 people lost a combined total of £282,686, after putting down deposits for pets advertised online and on social media.
