Meghan Markle has reportedly had the production of her upcoming animated Netflix series cancelled by the streamer. It was announced last summer that The Duchess of Sussex, 40, was teaming up with the streaming giant on a series with the working title of Pearl.

Archewell Productions wrote in a statement at the time: “Archewell Productions today announced that it is developing a new animated series for Netflix. "Created by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, Pearl (working title) will be a family series that centers on the adventures of a 12-year-old girl, who is inspired by a variety of influential women in history." Meghan herself added: “Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges.

I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history. “David Furnish and I have been eager to bring this special series to light, and I am delighted we are able to announce it today.” Sadly, because of cutbacks Netflix are having to take as a result of its fall in subscribers, Pearl will no longer be coming into fruition, Deadline reports.

OK! have contacted Netflix for comment. The news of the series’ axing comes after the streaming giant was looking to hire people to work on Pearl at the beginning of the year. The ad stated that the person who bags the role would "help to develop, create, and support the aesthetic vision of our Executive Producer Team, working closely with the Show Runner to design multiple worlds representing various time periods throughout history”.The ideal candidate.
