A rise in targeted fire attacks on vital communication equipment in Scotland may be linked to false conspiracy theories about 5G and the coronavirus.

Vandals have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage after four separate attacks were reported to authorities following the nationwide lockdown.

A police probe is underway after a mobile phone mast was set alight in Ayrshire on April 9, causing £50,000 worth of damage and leaving thousands without signal.
