O’Neil’s Boxing Club in Cambuslang have been left delighted after one of their young fighters scooped a top December prize.Jacob Naismith fought at Antonine Boxing Club’s home show in Dumbarton before Christmas and fought Hayden Fisher of the Clovenstone Boxing Club, which is based in Edinburgh.Billed as an East v West affair, the pair fought tirelessly in the 44kg event, with Naismith emerging as the winner.Fisher came into the fight as a Scottish Intermediate gold medallist and Scottish Open silver medallist.
Naismith, meanwhile, holds the Scottish schoolboy title and defended his MTK Lonsdale Boxcup title belt back in October. The unanimous victory over his Edinburgh-based opponent won the Cambuslang boxer the away fighter of the night trophy at Antonine’s show alongside another trophy for his victory.Proud dad and coach Ross Naismith says 2021 was a great year for his son, and victory in Dumbarton capped it all off.He said: “Hayden is an MTK champion so it was impressive that Jacob got one over him.
That boy won a Scottish gold this year so it was a champion versus champion clash.“It was a good fight and I think Jacob boxed very well.
You need to be subjective and know what is a good performance and a bad performance.“Jacob boxed really well and all the officials voted him the best away boxer.
