Broadband company Openreach has insisted that abuse directed at engineers over 5G conspiracy theories needs to end. The network says such incidents are hampering essential maintenance work to keep public services connected.
It claims it has seen an increase in its engineers being subjected to verbal abuse and intimidation linked to the de-bunked theory that coronavirus is caused by 5G.
Mobile phone masts across the country have also been targeted in arson attacks as conspiracists claim the electromagnetic waves of the 5G network have somehow induced the pandemic.
Openreach said one of its network engineers in Rochdale was verbally abused by a man as he was clearing an underground duct in order to install fibre broadband.
