Domestic abuse charity Women’s Aid has confirmed it is in discussions with ITV after the charity was inundated with posts flagging the “misogynistic and controlling” behaviour that has been seen in recent episodes of Love Island. The popular ITV dating show has captivated audiences since it returned last month, but viewers have been left feeling increasingly uncomfortable about some of the behaviour seen on screen, particularly in the infamous Movie Nights featured on the show, in which the contestants are exposed to videos of their partners getting up to no good in Casa Amor.

In scenes that aired on Sunday night, July 17, viewers at home saw Luca Bish take umbrage at partner Gemma Owen for speaking to newcomer Billy Brown, with the fishmonger accusing her of “flirting” – despite her insisting otherwise.

This degree of possessive behaviour raised alarm bells for some fans, but it’s not the only instance this series either. Davide Sanclimenti’s explosive rows with Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu have been another subject of concern, with the Italian heartthrob repeatedly branding his partner a “liar” despite being unfaithful himself and kissing Coco Lodge.

In a further example, Dami Hope was also recently slammed for his treatment of Summer Botwe, as he aggressively shouted at her and branded her “fake” while completely ignoring his own behaviour that saw him stray and indulge in a three way kiss while he was still had feelings for Indiyah Polack.
