The final five are then announced before the winner is chosen. United trio Mason Greenwood, Angel Gomes and James Garner have all been named on the initial shortlist for the trophy and will now battle some of the best talent in European football for the win.
Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix is the current holder of the award, with Matthijs de Ligt and Kylian Mbappe having both also won it in the past three years.This year sees plenty of competition for the award with Borussia Dortmund duo Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho both early favourites for victory, while Ansu Fati and Alphonso.
