The One Show turned into an emotional rollercoaster on Tuesday night with even host Alex Jones reduced to tears. Salford actor Christopher Eccleston was on the BBC programme to talk about the new series of The A Word - set in the Lake District and Manchester, which started last night.

But the actor was asked to deliver a moving tribute to the NHS at the end of the show in form of a poem, written by fellow Salford lad Matthew Kelly.

Mr Kelly wrote the poem, titled Our Heroes, after being inspired by the challenges his girlfriend faces as a district nurse during the current pandemic.
