Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor Marne Levine, who currently serves as Meta’s chief business officer, is leaving the internet company after 13 years. According to Meta, Levine will step down from the CBO role on Feb. 21, 2023, and will remain an employee until she departs in the summer. During her tenure at Meta, Levine served as VP of global public policy for Facebook before becoming Instagram’s first chief operating officer in 2014. She subsequently was named VP of global partnerships, business and corporate development for Facebook. In June 2021, Levine was named Facebook’s chief business officer, replacing chief revenue officer David Fischer. With Levine’s exit, Nicola Mendelsohn, Meta’s head of global business group, and Justin Osofsky, head of online sales, operations and partnerships, are taking on expanded roles as Meta’s most senior sales and partnership leaders, reporting to COO Javier Olivan. The company said the new structure “continues to bring our business and product teams closer together.”

Glamour editors and sat down with Nicola Mendelsohn, VP of the Global Business Group for Meta, to find out, and to discuss why it will be an increasingly important space for women. The meeting itself took place within VR workspace , enabling avatars of all three meeting participants to sit next to each other and chat—despite the fact Joseph was physically in London and Barry and Mendelsohn were in New York. Firstly: what is the metaverse? According to Mendelsohn, the short answer is that it's “the future of social technology," adding that the “fully-realized version is still five to 10 years away.” She explained, “It's a continuum of many different parts […] including 2D video calls, augmented reality, and totally-immersive virtual reality experiences," adding that “The fun thing is that you're going to be able to do things in the metaverse that you can't do in real life.” Ready to learn more?
