Twitch may become required to disclose their earnings with their record labels, says Twitch CEO Dan Clancy.The CEO made the comments in a new interview with TweakMusicTips, where he revealed the streaming platform was soon to make an agreement where both DJs and Twitch would “have to share money with the labels”.“It doesn’t come for free,” he continued, and went on to stipulate that Twitch would pay a sum of money for what labels were owed: “We’re going to split whatever the cost is.”The news comes amidst Twitch’s ongoing debates with the use of copyrighted music on its platform. According to Endgadget, Clancy hopes this new deal with labels will prevent DJ streamers from being hit with DCMA takedown requests.He also claimed that currently, Twitch has a “pretty good thing” with labels where Twitch pays them money to use copyrighted music on the platform.

Twitch co-founder and CEO Emmett Shear is resigning his post after a 16-year run atop the Amazon-owned livestreaming company.

Dan Clancy, currently Twitch’s president, will succeed Shear as CEO, effective immediately. In a blog post Thursday announcing the decision, Shear said he will continue to work at Twitch in an advisory role. Shear said he was stepping down as Twitch CEO following the birth of his first child. “With my first child just born, I’ve been reflecting on my future with Twitch. Twitch often feels to me like a child I’ve been raising as well,” Shear wrote. “And while I will always want to be there if Twitch needs me, at 16 years old it feels to me Twitch is ready to move out of the house and venture alone. So it is with great poignancy that I share my decision to resign from Twitch as CEO. I want to be fully there for my son as he enters this world and I feel ready for this change to tackle new challenges.”

Twitch has responded to its controversial decision not to amend its reduced revenue split for streamers.It was confirmed last month that users who had been given “premium deals” offering them more than 50/50 revenue split would see their income cut, with Twitch blaming the expense of hosting streams.In a blog post, Twitch president Dan Clancy acknowledged that the platform had previously offered those deals to certain streamers, which involved better revenue payouts than the site’s typical 50/50 split.But Clancy said it had stopped offering these premium agreements in 2021 and acknowledged that although some streamers still get 70/30 revenue splits, these will be altered moving forward.“For these streamers still on these premium deals, we’re adjusting the deal so that they retain their 70/30 revenue share split for the first $100K [£88,144] earned through subscription revenue,” Clancy explained. “Revenue above $100K will be split at the standard 50/50 share split.”These changes will come into effect after June 1, 2023, and streamers will only be affected when it’s time for their existing contract to be renewed.
