Love Island had a hilarious response to the claims new contestant Andrew Le Page, 27, a real estate agent, looked like the perpetrator who allegedly "stole" a woman's daughter's handbag in a Sainsbury's in unfounded claims.

After spotting the new snaps of the contestant emerging online, one concerned user commented: "He looks like the man who stole my daughter's handbag in Sainsbury's." Alarmed and demanding answers, the women then asked the Love Island team to find out if Andrew had been in the Bristol branch of the supermarket on 12 March of this year. The tweets continued as another Twitter user commented they thought Andrew looked familiar, wondering if they'd seen him somewhere else before. "Yes Bristol Sainsbury's," the first poster replied, as the tweets quickly went viral, with Love Island fans tickled by the user's persistence.

Memes with Andrew's head superimposed onto random Sainsbury's shoppers started to emerge, but it was only when former Love Island winner Amber Gill, 24, commented on the hilarious story that bosses themselves waded in.

Urging the show to get the Twitter user on the show for a challenge, Amber posted: "Get Carol on the show! NOW! "First challenge: Did you steal my daughter's handbag?" Retweeting the Geordie beauty, Love Island's official Twitter account shared a series of emojis and the simple message: "Speak to challenge team." While Andrew's entry into the villa next week could have potentially been cut short with the dramatic unfolding online, thankfully for the new contestant it was all just a misunderstanding.
