Former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson has addressed the controversy surrounding her first solo single which saw her accused of ‘blackfishing’.

The new song from the 30-year-old sees her step away from her old bandmates as she collaborates with rapper Nicki Minaj for her first venture since leaving the band.

In the video, which features a cameo from record producer P Diddy, Jesy has been accused of ‘blackfishing,’ a term used to describe an individual who changes their appearance to appear black or racially ambiguous.

Now, in an interview with Vulture, the British star has responded to the backlash, saying: ‘I’m very aware that I’m a white British woman; I’ve never said that I wasn’t.’ ‘I mean, like, I love Black culture.
