avalanche warning in the Pentland Hills amid heavy snowfall across the country. The Valley Mountain Rescue team said people could be 'buried' by the massive snow drifts and shared a picture on social media of an avalanche on Turnhouse hill taken from Penicuik.

It comes after 'blizzard conditions ' forced the Met Office to issue an amber weather warning for Scotland which is in force until midnight tonight.

Yellow warnings are also in place for snow and ice tomorrow across huge areas of the Highlands and west of the country.Forecasters predicted 12 inches of snow to fall along with strong winds in the East and Southern regions of Scotland.With the bad weather set to continue, The mountain rescue team wrote on Facebook: "Avalanche warning..
