A vicar in Leigh has raised people’s spirits by playing a popular hymn on his trumpet on the church rooftop amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

The Reverend Alan Saunders climbed to the top of the Christ Church Pennington’s 80-metre tower to blast out How Great Thou Art on Saturday afternoon.

He did it after a member of his congregation made him aware of a video circulating on social media, showing an Italian trumpeter playing the national anthem to his neighbours from his apartment balcony, during the country's lockdown.
