Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navaro has explained how he almost joined Guns N’ Roses, but didn’t show up to the audition.Following the break-up of Jane’s Addiction in 1991 and the departure of Izzy Stradlin from Guns N’ Roses, frontman Axl Rose apparently “really wanted” Navaro to join his band.Speaking to the Appetite For Distortion podcast, Navaro explained how they “talked nearly every day about ideas and the way the band could work with me.“At that time in my life though, I just wasn’t present enough to do it,” he added.Navaro then went on to say how he missed his audition to join the band “because I was immersed in my drug addiction and I just simply couldn’t show up in that shape. But it happened the way it happened”.

Former Black Crowes guitarist Marc Ford says he turned down joining Guns N’ Roses twice

Black Crowes guitarist Marc Ford has revealed that he was asked to join Guns N’ Roses on two different occasions.Speaking in a new interview, Ford discussed being asked to join the band after Izzy Stradlin abruptly left in 1991, and again in the early 2000s when frontman Axl Rose was looking to retool the GnR lineup.“I got asked to join that band a couple of different times,” Ford said on the Black Crowes-themed State Of Amorica podcast.“Once when Axl was still finishing that record that was taking forever,” he continued, presumably referencing Guns N’ Roses’ 2008 album ‘Chinese Democracy’.

Guns ‘N Roses guitarist Slash has recalled the first time he heard Axl Rose’s voice at the very beginning of the iconic band’s career.In an interview with Kerrang, Slash said that Rose’s voice was played to him on a cassette by co-founding Guns N’ Roses guitarist Izzy Stradlin before he eventually joined the group.“The first time was on a cassette that Izzy brought over to my house,” he said.“There was all this noise and then there’s this really intense high voice over the top of it. My first impression was that it was very soulful.
