There’s always room for another bad girl in Hollyoaks, and Sherrie Hewson feels her latest role is one she was born to play.
Famous for appearing in the Carry On films, Crossroads, Coronation Street and, of course, Benidorm, Sherrie reveals that her Hollyoaks character, Martha Blake, is unlike any other she’s portrayed in the past. “I’ve never been an out-andout baddie before – I just love it!” exclaims Sherrie. “Joyce Temple-Savage [Sherrie’s Benidorm character] was a bit of a b***h, but very funny.
And then in Coronation Street I played Maureen Webster, and she was a drip. “But being a baddie like Martha – it’s obviously who I really am because I feel as though I’m in my own skin.
I can be so evil, so horrible, it’s fantastic.” Sherrie, 73, has joined the E4 soap as Martha – the grandmother of Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) and Dilly Harcourt (Emma Johnsey-Smith).
