The Prime Minister visited south Manchester this morning after Storm Christoph raged through the region and the canal almost breached its banks.
Around 2,000 homes and businesses were asked to evacuate last night after the river hit the highest water levels ever recorded.
The Environment Agency said the waterway was just 2cm away from disaster but Manchester Council said thankfully, the 'worst-case scenario' had been avoided after the region's systems of flood defences worked.
