Germany’s Wacken Open Air, World’s Biggest Heavy Metal Festival, Cancels 2021 Edition
Ethan Shanfeld Wacken Open Air, the biggest heavy metal festival in the world, had to cancel its 2021 edition due to Germany’s coronavirus pandemic restrictions related to the return back live events .The festival, which usually attracts about 90,000 attendees to the small town of Wacken, was forced to cancel in 2020 as well.“Our hearts are bleeding,” the festival’s co-founders Thomas Jensen and Holger Hübner wrote in a joint statement. The decision to cancel this year’s festival was largely influenced by the fact that many of Wacken’s visitors come from over 80 countries across the world.“Even if we were able to hold the festival, many people would still not be able to arrive as planned due to travel restrictions,” Hübner said.
