Waverley paddle steamer back on open water after major refit
iconic boats is back on the water after getting an extensive refit.The Waverley - the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world - is back moving under her own power for the first time in nearly two years.Over the past few months, engineers have been hard at work installing two new Cochran boilers to replace the original built in Greenock in 1947.A fundraiser was launched in 2018, after it was discovered the the paddle steamer would need £2.3 million in funding to help install the new boilers.Several other components in the boiler room including electrical generators were also replaced as part of the major investment in Waverley to ensure that she can sail on for at least another 20 years.
