Vincent Kompany has named Virgil van Dijk as the best-ever Premier League centre-back, despite stiff competition and the intense rivalry between Manchester City and Liverpool.
Kompany would have been a good shout for the accolade himself but instead opted for the Dutchman who has completely transformed Jurgen Klopp's side since his arrival at Anfield.
City were well on their way to establishing themselves as the dominant force in the country after clocking up a record 100 points in their Premier League title victory of 2018.
Yet in the January transfer window of that season Liverpool splashed out a world-record fee for a defender to finally acquire Van Dijk from Southampton.
