Kilmarnock cover band to perform at Cancer Research event in Ayrshire

Kilmarnock-based cover band, The P's & Q's, will perform at the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Relay for Life event this summer.Mark Quinn with his wife Lisa and their good friend David Plancey formed a band around seven months ago and play a variety of genres from pop to soft rock, country and everything in between.The Kilmarnock trio played with different bands before coming together.

Mark was with the cover band 'Counterfeit Culture', Lisa was in ‘The Doghouse Howlers’ cover band, and David was the guitarist with the very successful Bon Jovi tribute band 'Non Jovi'.Mark said: "All three of us played in separate bands previously.

We all felt we still wanted to do something, so our small acoustic trio was formed and we’re all thoroughly enjoying it."Since forming the band, the trio have been rehearsing at Kilmarnock Mesi Studios and earlier this spring had their first small gig at Centre Stage at one of the 'Spotlight Sessions' that takes place once a month.Now, the band is looking forward to performing at other gigs, as well as at Relay for Life, a 24-hour walking challenge, which will take place on August 31 at Ayrshire Athletics Arena in Kilmarnock.Mark, 56, said: "We look forward to perform at Relay for Life this August.

I'm in recovery from cancer at the moment. It's been 17 months since my treatment was completed and everything's going pretty well, so when I saw that Relay for Life organisers were looking for bands to perform on the day, I thought maybe we can get involved in some small way."My particular cancer was found in late Spring 2022 and my six week course, which included 30 sessions of radiotherapy, began in early November at the wonderful Beatson Clinic in Glasgow."Every member of staff I came into contact
