'I'd be sick then film our CBBC TV show' - 90s boy band star shockingly reveals dark side of fame
North and South made their mark on the pop scene in the late 1990s, but in the years since they had a hit with I'm A Man (Not A Boy) and played a fictional version of themselves on the CBBC series No Sweat, one member revealed that life in the spotlight wasn't quite as glamorous as it looked. The band was made up of teenagers James Hurst, Lee Otter, Tom Lowe and Sam Chapman, and James, the band's guitarist and vocalist, opened up about the gruelling reality of their hectic lifestyle in 2001: "I was 16 when I moved to London from Norfolk, and I'm a vegetarian so cooking for myself was difficult, so I got really ill at one point." He shared the troubling effects on his health: "I was seven stone two. I'd wake up at five in the morning, ritually be sick, get dressed and go out to make our TV show," he told The Guardian.
